[E X P 1] - T H E I S L A N D

[ f i n a l   1 2 0   s e c o n d s   t r a i l e r]

Based on the term "schizophrenia", which refers to a mental disorder where one fails to distinguish between what is real and what is not, resulting in an abnormal social behavior. The video shows an individual falling into a land of complete darkness, and then he proceeds to explore this unknown place through his imaginations, an inhabited, monochromatic landscape. Cold and alone, he tries to find his way around, out of his hallucinations. But who can really escape these dark experiences?

On the macro scale, a large "M" is formed on the mountain through a mud layer. There are four peaks to the mountains, which relates to the number "4"

On the micro scale, there are 4 turtles along the water near the mountains, and tree branches forming an "M" next to the bushes near the water.

To a scale in between macro and micro, there are 4 beach houses, and two aligned to form an "M" through the view of the roof. Besides that, in the foggy forest, there are 4 dead tree branches laid across the surface strategically, however hidden among st the thick fog.

My island is based on a monochromatic, and distressed scheme. A landscape based on several shades of grey, surrounded by thick dark fog and rain, I have included several scales ranging from macro to micro, of my letter-number combination, My letter-number combination which is "M-4", has been placed throughout the landscape. On the macro scale, there are four large peaks of the main mountains, and a large M formed in the shape of moss/mud across the surface of the mountain. However on the micro scale, the roofs of the beach house forms an "M", and there are four turtles around the edge of the water.

Week 5 : Lecture Review

This week's lecture was based on subliminal stimuli. In our island, we learnt about certain construction elements that the viewer/user will not be aware of. This refers to the subtle details, and inserting our letter-number combination. Furthermore, we looked at works which demonstrated this concept, such as the works by Edward Bernays. We use this concept to construct the subliminal stimuli in the form of a letter-number combination, ranging from a micro scale to a macro scale.

Week 4 : Lecture Review

This week's lecture was based on weather and lighting. Lighting, significant to weather can contribute to the landscape, design, etc. The slight change of lighting could have a big impact and hence, we looked at how different artists have used lighting and weather to create more dramatic and realistic scenes. Lighting also relates difference between the virtual world and reality.

Week 3 : Lecture Review

This week's lecture was based on The Picturesque. "The Picturesque" referred to creating a natural looking landscape through the placement of objects for specific purposes in order to create realism. We've also looked at a couple of artworks. The artworks clearly showed the usage of layers to distinguish between foreground, middle ground and back ground. The ideas from these artworks were then conveyed into the placement of objects in my island and creating viewpoints, to create a view framed by elements in the foreground.
